New Cars Song! Mercifully this SOUNDS like 1982. We miss Ben Orr too!
The new album, Move Like This, will be released May 10 via Hear Music/Concord Music Group.
There has been a dearth of notable new release on my radar as of late. However here are a few links to some things I do look forward to hearing.
Toro Y Moi – Underneath The Pine
Releases February 22 but you can stream the entire lp at urban outfitters now here. Like Destroyer’s “Kaputt” indie rock has started getting smoothed out, groovy and leaving a little something for the ladies.
Oh Snap! here is the official video for ” New Beat”
Gil Scott Heron and Jaime XX “We’re New Here”
released February 21 via XL recordings. You can stream that now *with your smart phone ( by jumping through some hoops) here
Since jumping on the XX band wagon, I have been eager to post more, but have discovered I only find about %50 of the xx productions outside of their lp interesting. This remix Adele of “Rolling in The Deep” was just posted. But honestly it sounds like half the tracks are missing. Perhaps Jamie XX’s lunch came during the mix session and he figured “meh, I’ve done enough”.
Then today brought “I’ll Take Care of U” which seems to be much more of traditional XX production. Jamie remixes 13 tracks from label mate Gil’s 2009 release I’m New Here

They’re selling out shows across the country and their debut album isn’t even out for another couple months. I managed to see these blues-infused soul grabbers play a jam packed show at the Indy in San Francisco last night. Best overpriced scalped ticket I ever bought! Don’t [...]

Continuing work on my best of heard in 2011, next up is M83 “Midnight City”. My complete spotify playlist can be heard here. Separating the fact that this song is used in a Victoria’s Secret commercial. it’s still pretty great. It was produced by Justin Meldal Johnson who also produced my favorite Big Sir remix [...]
Oh, hey there, East Coast! Looks like you had a bit of an earthquake, huh? Don’t worry, I’m not gonna razz you about it. You’re ill-equipped for the tremors. A big quake would be way more catastrophic there than it would be here. You’re right to be a little jumpy about it. Well, I’m no [...]
Beastie Ad Rock remixes Gangsta with generous amounts of SP12 It will appear on a 12″ single release September 12 in the UK and September 27 in the U.S. via 4AD Did You Share That?
From the first beat of “Rolling in the Deep,” the first track on Adele’s new album, “21”, it is clear that even at such a young age (all of 22 now), singer/songwriter Adele continues to be a force stronger than she may know. As “21” dips into the style of the country South with a [...]
I like a young American band that makes vintage-sounding reverbalicious melodies. Specifically if those bands are Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls or Dum Dum Girls. Call me a nationalist but I just happen to prefer their take on fuzz pop to that of their Danish predecessors, the Raveonettes. Which is not to say I dislike the [...]
So Sayeth Pam: Tangled Up in the 80s
Today is Bob Dylan’s 70th birthday. Every major and minor news outlet is rhapsodizing about his long and storied career. But when your career is as long and as storied as Dylan’s, you’re bound to release some clunkers every now and then. Plus, as the Onion points out, he has done some weird shit.
Sooooo in the middle of the eighties, Bob Dylan released a very eighties album called Empire Burlesque. Reviews were mixed at best, but the one big single from that record is still, to this day, one of my guilty pleasures. And in the interest of celebrating the good, the bad and the ugly side of our favorite musicians, I present to you the video for “Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anyone Seen My Love),” directed by none other than Paul Schrader. Happy Birthday, Bob!
