Jesse J – Rides ( and Rocks ) the MTA ” Who You Are”

Jesse J stateside and entertaining straphangers in Giant Steps and Arcade44′s The Boom Box Series.  Performing her track  “Who You Are” to a boom box accompaniment in the Times Square subway station. Some background on Ms J. apparently she was one of the forces behind “Party In the USA”, so take that with the intent in which it’s meant.

It’s going to be a year of  Jesse J either way.

Recently Justin Timberlake called her “The best singer in the world”.

Video Little Dragon “My Step” kinda looks like it should be Tom Tom Club video

YouTube Preview Image

Putting aside my predilection of puppets and marionettes being less than upstanding citizens in videos,   This new video for the Swedish Pop group  “My Step” by director Matt Scheuerer, is being released on the heels of the 30 anniversary of this song:

you have to pay tribute to the obvious inspiration the Tom Tom Club’s “Genius Of Love”  has on Little Dragon, and all hip-hop in general.

Tom Tom Club will be on Jimmy Fallon tonight were Questlove will undoubtably kill that classic beat.

And Little Dragon is on tour everywhere else

Meet Eliza Doolittle

YouTube Preview Image

You don’t fool me, Eliza Doolittle. Impeccable speech alone is not enough to
make you a genteel, high society lady. Just like a nice voice paired with a cute face is
not enough to make you an exceptionally talented musician.
Oh, alright. Maybe I’m being too harsh on Miss Doolittle. And I’m talking
about the young British singer-songwriter, not the fictional character.
Sure, her self-titled full-length debut album is as fun and sassy and sweet
and delightfully retro-modern as the press release makes it out to be. It’s not that
it’s bad it’s just that I’m not as thrilled as I used to be with the fresh, young Motown-inspired pop singer that the UK has been exporting for the past few years.”

I’m a little wary of a debut album that sounds this polished right out of the gate. It could use a little
more edge; maybe fuck up the production just a little. And a mild substance abuse
problem wouldn’t hurt either. Just ask Amy Winehouse.
Now that I got the bitchy stuff out of the way, there are a few highlights on
this album. Namely the singles, “Skinny Genes” and “Pack Up.” Both are undeniably
catchy from start to finish. And I do enjoy the clever sampling of “Come Softly to Me
by the Fleetwoods on “Missing.” Definitely check those tracks, but I wouldn’t bother
with the rest of the album.

SOME ANY ESSEX CHICK WITH A MYSTIC MEG HAIRDO- JESSIE.J

Jessie J says ” my album is an example of what exists in the world of music right now” Upon 1st listen of the track ” Do It Like A Dude” from the upcoming album Who Are You that holds true. It’s difficult compare her to her contemporaries on the airwaves now but… you get it. She does have a stronger voice than the others, we hope to see if the upcoming album has more songwriting range. Good Luck Jessie.J

Do You Remember Rock & Roll?

If not, let the Alabama Shakes remind you. They’re selling out shows across the country and their debut album isn’t even out for another couple months. I managed to see these blues-infused soul grabbers play a jam packed show at the Indy in San Francisco last night. Best overpriced scalped ticket I ever bought! Don’t [...]

Oh, hey there, East Coast! Looks like you had a bit of an earthquake, huh? Don’t worry, I’m not gonna razz you about it. You’re ill-equipped for the tremors. A big quake would be way more catastrophic there than it would be here. You’re right to be a little jumpy about it. Well, I’m no [...]

Did You Hear That: Adele “21″ a brief review

From the first beat of “Rolling in the Deep,” the first track on Adele’s new album, “21”, it is clear that even at such a young age (all of 22 now), singer/songwriter Adele continues to be a force stronger than she may know. As “21” dips into the style of the country South with a [...]

So Sayeth Pam: The Raveonettes “Forget That You’re Young”

I like a young American band that makes vintage-sounding reverbalicious melodies. Specifically if those bands are Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls or Dum Dum Girls. Call me a nationalist but I just happen to prefer their take on fuzz pop to that of their Danish predecessors, the Raveonettes. Which is not to say I dislike the [...]
