Kevin Michael Has a Tight Fro

He Does. You do Kevin. I saw you in an elevator this morning and I thought to myself “tight fro”. Kevin also has a dope album cover, nice graphics. But there is something missing. “Gravitas” …look it up. I’m listening to your record for the second time right now. Everything second that passes is more forgettable then the next. I can’t remember what you are singing about because you sound like you don’t care or believe it yourself. (Please refer to my R.Kelly post about being earnest R.Kelly Strikes Again )He’s a dirty little man but at least he means it!

Which brings me to why I decided to write about you. Yesterday on the treadmill I caught your video for “It Don’t Make A Difference To Me”.Bravo. That video almost has everything I would want in a video. Almost. I’m just talking about the parade of hot ethnically diverse woman. All the cute little kids and the cool One Love graphic are not overtly offensive either.

Just hit the road with a really tight band. You are not in uncharted waters here. There where many pioneers before you to learn from. Do your homework. What’s Maxwell doing? He could probably give you some pointers on Nu Soul and hair care products.

New Radiohead vs. Bobby Brown

I don’t know which to write about. Both are so very important to me.

Radiohead albums always challenge but this time around free of any major label obligations they allow fans to pay what they see fit for the download of the album. Reuters Radio Head Article
Great for them because (1)all the $$$ goes directly into their pockets (2) They don’t need the $$$ (3) Making albums have just become a promotional tool for acts to get fans to come to the tour. (Wasn’t Prince doing this like 10 years ago?) .

Also Now that it’s in vogue Nine Inch Nails is pulling the same trick with their next album.

Without saying what I paid for In Rainbows. Upon 1st listen. They remain very true to the Radiohead fan-base. This record is more OK Computer and less cinematic than Kid A and Amnesia. Which is cool with me because I prefer getting directly to the rock.

As for Bobby Brown, Bobby please get better soon and I know “it ain’t about nothing else”. Some of us are waiting for another New Edition reunion.

Scary Kids Scaring Me…

Clearly there is not much to do in Arizona. Scary Kids Scaring Kids seem to wander through an angst filled world where Jared Leto and his 30 second trip to mars blew the minds of these kids in junior high school and inspired them to never grow up and continue playing with their own shit.

Do You Remember Rock & Roll?

If not, let the Alabama Shakes remind you. They’re selling out shows across the country and their debut album isn’t even out for another couple months. I managed to see these blues-infused soul grabbers play a jam packed show at the Indy in San Francisco last night. Best overpriced scalped ticket I ever bought! Don’t [...]

Did You Hear That? Best of 2011 Part 2 M83 – “Midnight City”

Continuing work on my best of heard in 2011, next up is M83  “Midnight City”. My complete spotify playlist can be heard here. Separating the fact that this song is used in a Victoria’s Secret commercial. it’s still pretty great. It was produced by  Justin Meldal Johnson who also produced my favorite Big Sir remix [...]

Love Letter from the West Coast

Oh, hey there, East Coast! Looks like you had a bit of an earthquake, huh? Don’t worry, I’m not gonna razz you about it. You’re ill-equipped for the tremors. A big quake would be way more catastrophic there than it would be here. You’re right to be a little jumpy about it. Well, I’m no [...]

Did You Hear That: Adele “21″ a brief review

From the first beat of “Rolling in the Deep,” the first track on Adele’s new album, “21”, it is clear that even at such a young age (all of 22 now), singer/songwriter Adele continues to be a force stronger than she may know. As “21” dips into the style of the country South with a [...]

So Sayeth Pam: The Raveonettes “Forget That You’re Young”

I like a young American band that makes vintage-sounding reverbalicious melodies. Specifically if those bands are Crystal Stilts, Vivian Girls or Dum Dum Girls. Call me a nationalist but I just happen to prefer their take on fuzz pop to that of their Danish predecessors, the Raveonettes. Which is not to say I dislike the [...]
