did you hear that? Easy Star’s Lonely Hearts Dub Band

Easy Dub All Stars Album Art
It’s hard to imagine who this album is geared to. “Following the widespread critical and commercial success of 2003’s Dub Side of the Moon and 2006’s Radiodread, Easy Star Records announces the Easy Star All-Stars’ complete reggae re-imagining of the Beatles’ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band” . Boasting a laundry list of today’s reggae stars helps add legitimacy to this project. Luciano shines on “With A Little Help From My Friends” and it’s great to see Ranking Roger chatting on “Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite”. Mostly these are uninspired covers that make me want to either listen to the Beatles or listen to good reggae.
Then I thought about it, there is a steady stream of psuedo bohemian ivy league freshman that have just ripped a bong load and are going for a study break. Instant audience. This cd should be blasting across quads across america as we speak.

( which is why the album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart )

“Hallelujah” Shoots Up iTunes Chart After Idol Performance

Jeff Buckley Grace
If you wanted to know why, the headline says it all read all about it here. But that’s not what’s interesting. What is fascinating is how burnt out that song is. More specifically how spent and ineffective the 1994 Jeff Buckley version is ( Leonard Cohen wrote and recorded the original on the album Various Positions for Columbia Records in 1985 ). For the record, it’s a great version of that song, but as the good people at clapclap.org have pointed out TV and Films abuse of that song over the last 10 years or so have rendered it almost devoid of any and all sentiment.

Start here for the “Sad” Montage and crimes against music supervision.

Controversy: Classic Covers of Prince

Controversy- A Tribute to Prince
This is how you know a song is great. Other artist cover your work and the songs still sounds great. Rapster Records has collected these covers in tribute to his Purple Highness.
If you haven’t heard D’angelo’s version of “She’s Always In My Hair” it highlights the best of both artist. You need to hear that here. I’m really curious to hear the Blue States version of “Alphabet Street”. Controversy- A Tribute to Prince hits stores February 5th.
