Rage Against the Machine takes it to the Streets at RNC

After having their power cut Rage Against the Machine literally “took it to the streets” at the Republican National Convention. They risked what could have come off has a pretty silly/hoakey sing-a-long and performed 2 songs accappella while in the crowd.
The cast of Spring Awakening did the same thing last year during the teamsters strike ( but there is may have been expected to be a little cheesey)

So what do you think? Silly or Serious? At least they put their mouth where their mouth is… I wonder if the election will coincide with the release of a RATM: Greatest Hits?

Lady Gaga born high atop New York City

Small GAGA Empire

If Madonna and David Bowie did have a love child ( which was an actual rumor in the 80s’ ). The Child would be Lady Gaga.
This photo was from a rooftop performance last weekend where she bumped and grinded and shoulder padded her way on to our radar.

Blackcab Sessions provide reasons to be stuck in traffic

Better than NYC’s Cash Cab? Maybe not as lucrative, but most certainly an
intimate gig, tailor made for Internet viewing. The Black Cab Sessions.
Cameraman, soundman and artist (or bits of a band) hail a London taxi -
often on the way to, or from, a gig. With the permission of the driver, a
mini concert of one song, in one take, is performed while the taxi bumps
and careens around town. No pressure though…I think this would work in
New York but only if everyone wore helmets, kneepads and seatbelts and they
took away the driver’s cellphone and then taped the driver’s mouth shut and
then sprayed the driver down with…maybe not.

Featuring Daniel Johnston, Killa Kela, Spoon, Okkervil River, The National
and many more…www.blackcabsessions.com

The Hold Steady: Live at Hard Rock Cafe - New York City

The Hold Steady raised a toast to the Saint Joe Strummer last night at the Hard Rock in Times Square. The boys brought new songs for the Rolling Stone sponsored event. Check out the video of the new album title track “Stay Positive” backed with ” Hot Soft Lights” in a special Schick Quattro remix.

Footnote - included in the generous gift band was a 50 pack of blank cds. Nothing sends a mixed message more in 2008 than a bulk of blank cd’s in which to bootleg your favorite Hold Steady cd and share it with your friend who listens to it in his discman. I have not even finished the spindle of blank cd’s . Now where am I supposed to keep these? CD storage is still only 700 mg and If I remember correctly cds scratch. Well at least there was a Schick Quattro in the bag also. Too bad I went here to get strait razed by bond girl Miho the day before yesterday.

Passing Strange On Broadway~Free Download

Scenes From Passing Strange
I was passed a poster for this Broadway play the other day and my friend reminded me that this play was written and stars Stew (Just Stew). Lead singer of the Los Angeles band The Negro Problem. This band was so good in the late 1990’s due to the sardonic lyrics and infectious melodies.

The play has moved from the Public Theatre downtown and opens at the Belasco Theatre on February 28th. I’m in.

Just as I started to look for some music to prepare me to get excited about this Silverlake to Broadway success story I found this Passingstrangeonbroadway.com

Indie Rock meets Broadway. Who else could do this? The Who’s Tommy was not exactly “indie”. Perhaps a Broadway version of the movie “Once” would be entertaining.
