Hold Steady Speaks up: “Radiohead have lost the plot”

Tad Kubler at McCarren Pool
We have to agree with Tad on this one. The Hold Steady Guitarist told BBC 6 Music that “I think they’ve lost the plot,” he said. “What are they doing? Where are they going? What’s happening? I don’t get it any more. They lost me. And we have to agree a little bit. We saw Radiohead twice in 2004 when they brought their rock to the Hollywood bowl and Coachella. Now it seems fans of In Rainbows are basically fans of Radiohead of yesteryear. Like “remember… OK Computer? Yeah , that shit was banging”, “How’s the new record In Rainbows” “I don’t know but I hope they play ‘Exit Music’ tonight” And that’s cool man… that’s cool. It’s nostalgic the way Pearl Jam fans were really into them in Junior High school but still go to every show in hope to hear “Jeremy”….Not gonna happen. Or when people say Atlas Shrugged “changed my life”but if you asked same person what the book was about they will stare at their shoes for a while until you get them to admit that they never finished it.

Did you finish “In Rainbows”? We didn’t.

Radiohead Goes Full Court Press: American Idol Guest Spot Next

Thom Yorke Rolling Stone CoverRadiohead are doing everything they can to make sure that 2008 is their year. So far this year they have Announced their World Tour. Thom has graced the cover of Rolling Stone. EMI is releasing a greatest Hits which is a real sign their audience is getting older. Also as EMI is broadening it’s synchronization licensing reach so it’s only a matter of time before you hear an all Radiohead version of Gossip Girl.

BUT WAIT THERE’S MORE.

Mr. Yorke will be DJ’ing on NPR’s All Song’s Considered on Valentines Day. Playing all the hits to gaze at your lover’s shoes to.

Does anybody else think there is a great deal more access to Radiohead than there was in the OK Computer days?

Radiohead Webcast Right Now!

So I’m listening/ watching Radiohead’s Tom Yorke do a vj/dj thing on radiohead.tv  beats & loops . The usual quality fair from the band. I will say the video reminds me of the really simple distorted graphics and the static shot performance footage remind me of the days of the early 80’s TV party. It seems that they were just doing it without being self-conscious.  Not really caring if anyone was watching, but you know everyone is.

New Radiohead vs. Bobby Brown

I don’t know which to write about. Both are so very important to me.

Radiohead albums always challenge but this time around free of any major label obligations they allow fans to pay what they see fit for the download of the album. Reuters Radio Head Article
Great for them because (1)all the $$$ goes directly into their pockets (2) They don’t need the $$$ (3) Making albums have just become a promotional tool for acts to get fans to come to the tour. (Wasn’t Prince doing this like 10 years ago?) .

Also Now that it’s in vogue Nine Inch Nails is pulling the same trick with their next album.

Without saying what I paid for In Rainbows. Upon 1st listen. They remain very true to the Radiohead fan-base. This record is more OK Computer and less cinematic than Kid A and Amnesia. Which is cool with me because I prefer getting directly to the rock.

As for Bobby Brown, Bobby please get better soon and I know “it ain’t about nothing else”. Some of us are waiting for another New Edition reunion.
