Did You Hear That: Pebble To A Pearl

Pebble To A Pearl Album Art

Nikka Costa did something good. Very good. Releasing her 3rd Lp free of a major label , instead working with the indie gofunkyyourself records along with Stax Records. Which makes sense because this record stanks of Stax records classics. It’s all there.

Did You Hear That?: Duffy “Rockferry”

Duffy Promo
Duffy’s sound is very nostalgic and retro. I’m not going to lie…she does
sound a bit like Amy Winehouse, but that isn’t such a bad thing. I mean
musicians bite off each others styles all the time, right?

Justice,Chromeo and DJ Mhendi:Myspace Music Tour: Review

Justice at WaMu Theater
The Myspace Music Tour featuring Justice, Chromeo and DJ Mhendi was purely awesome. At first when my friend, Carol and I walked into the event I was skeptical, because it was in the overpopulated Madison Square Garden, however the WaMu theater is a rather cute and quaint space.

Did You Read That: Rock On: An Office Power Ballad by Dan Kennedy

Rock On: Office Power Ballad

With Rock On Mr. Kennedy gives the reader an insiders peek to his rapid ascension to middle management during the downward spiral of the corporate music industry. This book humorously walks the halls with rock and roll icon’s and mangers mistaken for band members. Kennedy at the table of large board meetings, wonder if he has overplayed his hand and will be discovered as the fraud he perceives himself to be. He also desperately seeks the approval of a famous rapper in hopes of fitting in with his crew.

The book is full of familiar Artist ( none of which are painted in a too bad light) and Executive “Characters” who’s wants, needs, and request would seem ludicrous to a reasonable person has not spent the last 30 years getting paid 7 figure income and feeding off the ideas and essence of the “below the line people”.

If you have had a job, you will find humor in this book. If you have had a job in the music industry you will find this book hysterical. And if you actually know some of the characters in this book like I do, you will find new nicknames for your friends.

Passing Strange On Broadway
I had the fortunate opportunity to go to the Belasco Theater last night and see Passing Strange on Broadway Preview. I have never reviewed a Broadway Musical before so I don’t want to over state it, but IT WAS AWESOME.
Congratulations to Stew and Cast and Crew for bringing one of the most original and relevant performances on broadway today.

There I said it.

*Morcheeba: “Dive Deep”* Review

Morcheeba
*Morcheeba: “Dive Deep”*

Morcheeba’s new release “Dive Deep” is an eclectic mix of soul, funk, rap,
jazz, and R&B. The female vocals in the band are outstanding. The lead track
“Enjoy the Ride”, sung by Judie Tzuke is very reminiscent of the sounds of
Sade. Her voice is truly sexy, soulful and captivating.

Controversy: Classic Covers of Prince

Controversy- A Tribute to Prince
This is how you know a song is great. Other artist cover your work and the songs still sounds great. Rapster Records has collected these covers in tribute to his Purple Highness.
If you haven’t heard D’angelo’s version of “She’s Always In My Hair” it highlights the best of both artist. You need to hear that here. I’m really curious to hear the Blue States version of “Alphabet Street”. Controversy- A Tribute to Prince hits stores February 5th.

New N.E.R.D Track “Everyone Nose”

I was wondering what happened to N.E.R.D. Yesterday I watched the Bangers and Cash L.O.O.S.E video. Which then lead me to N.E.R.D’s “Lapdance” ( because one begat the other) and I thought… These guys fall off or what? Well here is the new track but it sounds like they have some catching up to do.
